Grade 1 Reading Comprehension

Drooly Mooly Drooly Mooly was the dirtiest dog on the street. He had a chubby body, a short tail and grubby little paws. All of the other animals on the street laughed at him because of the mess he made. Everywhere he walked, he left a path of drool. It hung from his mouth and went all the way to the ground. People would slip and slide on his drool and shout out, “Drooly Mooly!” He would laugh at them, and run off to play in the dirt. He was a mess!

The Black Cat A black cat lives on my street. He walks up and down the street every day. The cat has no family and likes to eat from the trash. One day, he chased a large dog all the way home. The black cat is not scared of other dogs or cats. He looks old and is fur is always dirty. I want to bring him home, but dad says he belongs in the street.

The Brave Mouse Jerry was a brave mouse. He wasn’t scared of anything, but one day, a large cat moved into his house. Jerry’s family were very scared and wanted to find a new home, but they were trapped. They hid under the house, too afraid to leave. Jerry had a plan. He hid behind the door in the kitchen. When the cat walked past, he pushed a basket on the cat and trapped him. His family ran of the house and found a new home.

Millie’s Hair Style Millie had a unique hair style. Everywhere she went, people stopped and looked at her. Millie had long pink hair that was covered in tiny spiders! It was the most bizarre hair style in the world. The spiders had been living on top of her head for years. Their parents, grandparents and great grandparents had lived in her hair. Millie was proud of her hair style and changed the way she had her hair every day. Some days she had the spiders dangling from the ends of her hair, and other days she sat the spiders on top of her bun. It was unique!
